Road Safety Awareness Programme

India has the world’s largest road network and is the most populated country. Poor road infrastructure and a lack of awareness about road safety have led to an increase in the number of road accidents in the country. Most people in the country are not aware of road signs, markings, and signals, nor are they aware of all traffic rules and the consequences and penalties for violating them which is one of the biggest reasons for road accidents in India.

Sashakt Foundation organized the Road Safety Awareness Programme to educate students and teachers about road safety issues to prevent accidents by sensitizing them and making them understand their responsibility. The Road Safety Awareness Programme is initiated to create community awareness through campaigns, rallies, slogans, and Nukkad Natak in nearby communities in Noida. The programme aimed to sensitize community people and local commuters about the importance of road safety. The project’s overall objective is to reach out to as many people as possible and educate them about road safety, traffic rules and penalties, FASTag and Toll Management, Accident-related First Aid, and Medical and Emergency numbers.

The programme also involved enthusiastic and committed youth leaders and some youth mentors to impart the components of road safety to school students. 88 Road Safety Awareness session were conducted with more than 5000 students and 100+ educators weekly in 10 schools. Apart from the sessions conducted in schools, exposure visits were organised for 60 students to the Noida Command and Control Centre to help them understand the traffic management system.

such that along with playing, it also covers the topics on education, life skills, leadership, etc. S4D sessions are currently ongoing in the communities of Hasanpur, Mandawali, Khoda and Nawada in Delhi NCR, and the tribal regions of Ranchi, Jharkhand.

School Library Set-up

Access to books and reading materials is crucial for a well-rounded education, and it’s unfortunate that students in many government schools are not able to access quality education due to lack of such resources. Sashakt Foundation is taking a step towards addressing this issue by providing students with opportunities to expand their knowledge beyond the curriculum books by setting up libraries in three government schools in NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh. The project is supported by B L International and Kazo. Libraries open up avenues to learn about the world, which is a far-fetched dream for the school students. The students studying in these schools come from marginalized sections, where they lack basic necessities. School is an opportunity for them to escape the cycle of poverty and learn about the world.

These libraries are stocked with a variety of books, including help books, guides, maps, globes, periodic table, previous year question papers and stationaries, the students can have access to a wider range of resources to aid in their studies. Additionally, providing access to newspapers and monthly magazines can help students stay up to date with current affairs, which is essential for their overall growth and development. The libraries also feature story books and novels from around the world, which is an aid for the students to develop their language skills and open their creative side.
